Indus Floods Hit Katcha Villages
Rising Indus River Floods Submerge Villages, Force Evacuations in Katcha Areas
The rising waters of the Indus River have caused havoc in the katcha areas, as a boat traveling through the strong currents recently met with a mishap. Local villagers on board managed to swim to safety, preventing any loss of life, witnesses said.
However, the boat’s cargo—including a motorbike, grain, and other belongings—was lost to the swollen river.
Residents report that many families are evacuating the flood-hit areas on their own, as government relief efforts remain largely absent. The katcha regions across several districts are now fully submerged, with standing crops in agricultural fields also underwater.
At Guddu Barrage, the Indus is experiencing high flood levels, while at Sukkur, it remains at medium flood. The major floodwaters from Punjab continue to flow into Sindh, worsening the situation for local communities.
