Erdogan of Turkey congratulates President Zardari on his appointment

On Tuesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan gave Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari a call to congratulate him on taking over as head of state.

According to a statement from the President’s Secretariat, the two presidents discussed issues of bilateral significance and emphasized the necessity for further improvement of cooperation in all areas of shared interest.

President Zardari expressed gratitude to the Turkish president for his kind words and phone conversation.

The statement said, “President Asif Ali Zardari wished the Turkish nation a happy Ramadan and desired to see the role of Turkish women in the Islamic world.”

He also wanted to invite President Erdogan to Pakistan as soon as possible.

Last week, Zardari secured 411 electoral votes from parliament and all four provincial assembly to win an overwhelming majority for a second term as the country’s president.

In addition to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), the newly elected president was supported by minor parties such as Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-Pakistan) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

Several heads of state have congratulated Zardari on taking up the nation’s highest post since his victory, including President Xi Jingping of China, President Ebrahim Raisi of Iran, and President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan.

President Xi congratulated President Zardari on his election, stating that China and Pakistan are friendly neighbors and partners. His country is “ready to work with” Zardari.

According to state-run Xinhua, the Chinese president stated that the unwavering friendship between the two nations is a decision made by history and a priceless asset of the two peoples.

Xi stated that the two nations have successfully completed the building of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, sustained a high degree of development of bilateral relations, and maintained close high-level exchanges in recent years. They have also supported one another on issues pertaining to their respective core interests and major concerns.
