Mother Marian Robinson, 86, passes away, and Michelle Obama loses her “rock”
Former US President Barack Obama’s wife Michelle is devastated by the death of her mother Marian Lois Shields Robinson, 86, on Friday. The former first family is now in mourning.
Michelle Obama wrote on X, “My mom Marian Robinson was my rock, always there for whatever I needed.” We are devastated to learn that she passed away today; she was our family’s constant rock.
When Michelle and her family lived at 7436 S. Euclid Ave., she frequently attributed her upbringing in morals and discipline to her mother Marian Lois Shields, who reared her in a tiny apartment on Chicago’s South Side.
Fraser Robinson, the father of the former first lady and a Democratic precinct captain, worked as an operator at the City of Chicago Water Filtration Plant close to Navy Pier. He passed away in 1991.
Mrs. Robinson returned to Chicago after some time in the White House, where she passed away on Friday. The cause of death and the details of the funeral were kept private by the family.
“My mom has always been my rock and I’m so grateful for all the ways she continues to show up for my family,” Michelle Obama wrote on social media this Mother’s Day. She has taught me so much over the years, and I consider myself extremely fortunate to be able to impart the same knowledge to my daughters.
