Iranian President Visits Pakistan to Boost Ties
LAHORE – Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Lahore on an official visit to Pakistan. He was warmly received by PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz at the airport.
During his short stay in Lahore, President Pezeshkian will visit the mausoleum of the national poet Allama Iqbal. He will then travel to Islamabad for further meetings.
This is President Pezeshkian’s first official visit to Pakistan since taking office. He is visiting the country on the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. A high-level Iranian delegation is accompanying him, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other senior officials.
The Foreign Office said the visit aims to strengthen political, economic, and cultural ties between the two neighboring countries.
While in Islamabad, the Iranian president will meet with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Senate Chairman, and the National Assembly Speaker. Both sides will also hold delegation-level talks.
Earlier this year, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met President Pezeshkian in Tehran. He shared PM Shehbaz Sharif’s message of goodwill and praised Iran’s resistance during recent conflicts. Naqvi also said Pakistan was one of the first countries to condemn Israeli attacks and support Iran’s right to self-defense.
The visit is expected to bring Pakistan and Iran closer and open new paths for cooperation.
