Isha Talwar Calls Out Casting Director Over Uncomfortable Audition
Isha Talwar Opens Up About Uncomfortable Audition Experience with Renowned Casting Director
Isha Talwar, known for her role as Madhuri Yadav in the popular Amazon Prime series Mirzapur, has spoken out about a troubling experience she had with Shanoo Sharma, a prominent casting director famous for launching the careers of Bollywood stars like Ranveer Singh, Parineeti Chopra, Alia Bhatt, and Arjun Kapoor.
In a candid comment on social media, the 37-year-old SIIMA Award-winning actor shared a memory from over a decade ago. She recalled an audition where Sharma asked her to perform a crying scene in an unusual and unsettling setting — right inside a busy restaurant called Mia Cucina in Versova, Mumbai. According to Talwar, the restaurant was crowded with diners sitting just a few feet away, and Sharma, along with her assistants, was observing the audition.
Talwar described the experience as confusing and intimidating. “I was told I should have no inhibitions as an actor and be able to cry right there, with Shanoo and her team watching me,” she said. “It shattered my confidence as a young actress. I couldn’t understand why a senior casting director would put a young girl through such an uncomfortable situation.”
The actor emphasized that auditions should be conducted in a professional and respectful environment. “It’s only fair that actors are given proper casting office space for auditions. If a real location is preferred, it should be hired and paid for,” she urged.
Despite the pressure, Talwar said she stood her ground. “I told them I couldn’t do it and, of course, I never got the role. But at least I didn’t give in to that strange demand, and I certainly didn’t cry in a restaurant for a role,” she wrote, ending her post with the hashtag.
Talwar’s revelations have sparked discussions about the pressures and uncomfortable situations actors sometimes face during auditions, encouraging newcomers to maintain their self-respect and say no when something feels wrong.
