Israel Intercepts Houthi Missile Bombs Yemen’s Hodeida Port
Israeli Air Force Intercepts Missile from Yemen as Strikes Hit Houthi Targets in Hodeida
TEL AVIV — The Israeli military reported on Monday that a missile launched from Yemen was intercepted by the Israeli Air Force shortly after air raid sirens were triggered in multiple areas of Israel.
The attack came amid escalating tensions with Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels, who have repeatedly targeted Israel with missile and drone strikes in what they call acts of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.
In response, Israel carried out fresh airstrikes on Houthi-controlled territories, including strategic facilities at the port of Hodeida. According to Israel’s Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, the latest operation targeted “sites of the Houthi terror regime” to prevent the restoration of infrastructure previously damaged in Israeli attacks.
“Yemen’s fate will be the same as Tehran’s,” Katz warned, signaling intensified Israeli military posture toward the Houthis and their Iranian allies.
A Houthi security official, speaking to AFP on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the strikes destroyed a port dock that had recently been reconstructed after earlier bombings.
The Houthis have recently renewed their attacks in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, targeting commercial vessels they allege are connected to Israel, in a bid to pressure Tel Aviv to halt its ongoing military campaign in Gaza.
