Israel Strikes Yemens Hodeida Port in Response to Houthi Attacks
Israel launched a series of airstrikes on Yemen’s Hodeida port, targeting areas under the control of the Iran-aligned Houthi rebels. The attacks come as a direct response to repeated missile and drone launches by the Houthis since the Gaza war erupted in October 2023.
Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz confirmed the strike on Monday, saying it aimed to “prevent any attempt to restore the previously attacked terror infrastructure.” He issued a stern warning, stating, “Yemen’s fate will be the same as Tehran’s,” referring to the recent 12-day conflict in which Israel struck Iranian military and nuclear sites.
According to Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV, Israeli warplanes launched several air raids on Hodeida’s port. A Houthi security source told AFP, under anonymity, that the port dock was “destroyed” in the bombing — the same dock rebuilt after prior attacks.
The Israeli military reported hitting “engineering vehicles, fuel containers, and naval vessels” allegedly used in hostile operations against Israel. Officials claimed the port served as a hub for Iranian weapons shipments to the Houthis.
The Houthi rebels have recently resumed attacks in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, targeting commercial vessels they accuse of having links to Israel, aiming to pressure Tel Aviv into halting its Gaza offensive.
