Six Israeli Soldiers Killed in Gaza as War Death Toll Rises
The army said on its website that five soldiers and one platoon commander from the same group died while fighting in southern Gaza.
It also said that one more soldier was killed, but his name was not shared because his family didn’t give permission.
So far, more than 430 Israeli soldiers have died in the war, which started after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023.
That attack killed 1,219 people in Israel, most of them civilians, based on official numbers.
Hamas fighters also took 251 people as hostages. Out of them, 49 are still in Gaza. The Israeli army says 27 of those 49 are no longer alive.
In response, Israel launched a military operation in Gaza, which has killed at least 56,077 people, mostly civilians, according to the Gaza health ministry. The United Nations says these numbers can be trusted.
Gaza, home to over two million people, is now facing extreme hunger. This is because Israel stopped the supply of food and other goods from early March to the end of May, and restrictions are still in place, human rights groups say.
After Israel agreed to a ceasefire with Iran on Tuesday, Israel’s army chief Eyal Zamir said they will now turn their attention back to Gaza.
