Journalist Assault Near Adiala Jail Sparks Media Protest; PTI Family Influence Raises Eyebrows
Islamabad: Tensions flared near Adiala Jail when a journalist was physically attacked while questioning Imran Khan’s sisters during a media interaction. In response, reporters temporarily withdrew from covering the event, removing microphones in protest against the assault.
In a related development, sources reveal that resignations of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members from National Assembly standing committees were influenced by interventions from the party founder’s family. Close relatives of Imran Khan reportedly presented him with reports suggesting that some PTI lawmakers, including members of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), were aligning with government positions rather than defending the party line.
Sources further indicated that this perceived shift in loyalty sparked dissatisfaction within Imran Khan’s inner circle. A family member reportedly claimed that lawmaker Junaid Akbar gained party and assembly positions largely due to recommendations from Bushra Bibi.
Tensions had also surfaced earlier when Junaid Khan raised objections in a PTI WhatsApp group, questioning why criticism targeted the PAC while sparing discussions about the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government. Meanwhile, both Imran Khan’s family and the KP government reportedly supported appointing Sheikh Waqas as PAC chairman over Junaid Akbar.
Senior PTI leader Asad Qaiser, however, dismissed any rumors of mass resignations, saying that the party has no such proposals under review. He added that PTI lawmakers are being denied the right to speak during assembly sessions, which he described as a violation of their legal and constitutional rights. “The party will make decisions after carefully assessing the national political situation,” he said.
