Judge Ties DiMaggio With 360th Career Home Run in Yankees Win

NEW YORK — Aaron Judge powered his way into the history books on Wednesday night, matching Joe DiMaggio’s career home run total as the Yankees rolled past the Detroit Tigers, 9-3, at Yankee Stadium.

Judge wasted no time, launching a 413-foot shot to left-center off opener Tyler Holton in the first inning for his 360th career homer. Two innings later, he tied DiMaggio with a 434-foot blast over the bullpen off Sawyer Gipson-Long.

The milestone came in Judge’s 4,925th career plate appearance — nearly 2,800 fewer than DiMaggio needed during his 13-season career that was interrupted by military service in World War II.

The Yankees’ captain, who passed Yogi Berra earlier this week with his 359th homer, finished the night 3-for-4 with three runs scored. His performance helped New York avoid a sweep in the three-game set.

Judge, playing through a right elbow flexor strain that sidelined him earlier this summer, now has 46 home runs this season, second in the American League behind Seattle’s Cal Raleigh. He is chasing what would be his fourth 50-homer campaign.

Tensions briefly flared in the fourth inning when Gipson-Long hit Judge in the left elbow with an offspeed pitch. The Yankee Stadium crowd erupted in boos, prompting Tigers manager A.J. Hinch to pull his pitcher from the game.
