Junaid Akram faces backlash over 'classist' take

Junaid Akram, a comedian and content creator, has come under fire for posting his collection video on Karachi beaches and making fun of regular website users. The video was posted as a quotation response to another post on X, the previous Twitter, that mentioned the city’s beautiful beaches. It seems that Karachi has fifteen beaches, but I have only visited five of them. “How’s that fair?” the post asked, to which Akram edited a response.

The comedian’s walk along the beach is seen in the video, as he looks around with a humorous look of amazement. His reaction is interspersed between scenes of different groups of tourists enjoying common activities like dancing, leaping into the sea, and making TikToks. With the caption “Beaches be like,” Akram questioned the kind of people that Karachi’s beach attracts.

Comedy is a difficult genre to tread between humor and offensiveness. Even more so for creators of digital content who depend on platforms like YouTube and TikTok for uploading videos in order to attract viewers. These areas empower critics as well as aspiring artists by removing conventional obstacles from their path to success.

Online critics descended upon Akram’s post, refuting his recording of individuals having fun and assembling it into an apparently derogatory edit. Artist and performer Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Jr. made the following observation: “At the beach, avoid staring at other people. Nobody in this compilation was disturbing wildlife or dumping rubbish.

Akram was further criticized in the article for gazing at individuals. They don’t want a pervert staring at them or making fun of them for enjoying themselves. Honor your beaches and those that use them with decency! In a similar vein, another user made the jest, “A middle-aged man acting smug and judgmental while walking around the beach with a cameraman following him has to be the weirdest part of the beach.”

An online user made the accusation that the internet personality had a superiority problem. Yes, excellent humor, but tell me where you believe you stand on a scale from zero to the pinnacle of your superiority complex. Allow them to pursue their happiness,” the netizen argued.

Another scoffed, highlighting the classist undertones of Akram’s comedy: “How can these folks have fun? For them, nothing ought to be free. Not even the shoreline. Like other necessities, this should also be taken from them.

“These places should only host yacht parties for the rich where someone drunkenly remarks on how the poor ruin the vibe of the country,” the insulting statement went on. Several users also emphasized how Akram’s own social background influences his mockery of the commons’ usage.

Not everyone is as fortunate as you, who can reserve a $85,000 private beach hut for a day, as one X post said, highlighting the fact that most people cannot afford private rooms to enjoy themselves with dignity. People will undoubtedly visit these locations in search of fun.
