Karachi Police Recover 68 Illegal Weapons After Independence Day Tragedy

KARACHI — Police have recovered 68 illegal weapons and registered over 100 cases against suspects following the deadly aerial firing incidents that marred Independence Day celebrations in the city.

Officials confirmed that additional cases of murder and attempted murder are being lodged against those involved in the shootings.

The celebrations turned grim when indiscriminate aerial firing claimed at least three lives and injured 82 people across Karachi. Police reports show 30 injuries in the East Zone, 43 in the West Zone, and 12 in the South Zone.

In Azizabad, an eight-year-old girl died after being struck in the head by a stray bullet. In separate incidents in Korangi and Lyari, two elderly men lost their lives after being shot in the head and neck. Among the wounded were 51 men, 24 women, six boys, and one girl.

Sindh Inspector General Ghulam Nabi Memon condemned the violence, reminding citizens that Independence Day should not put lives at risk.
“Celebrating does not mean taking someone’s life,” he said, urging the public to refrain from aerial firing.
