Karachi Couple Bail in Child Burn Case

Karachi Court Grants Bail to Couple Accused of Burning 12-Year-Old Domestic Worker

Karachi: A Judicial Magistrate East has granted bail to a husband and wife accused of torturing a 12-year-old domestic worker, setting surety bonds of Rs 30,000 each. The court rejected the police request for the couple’s physical remand.

The young girl, identified as Zainab, sustained severe burn injuries on her back, hands, and legs and is receiving treatment at the Burns Ward of Civil Hospital Karachi.

Police reports state that Zainab was ironing her employer’s dupatta when she accidentally dozed off, causing the cloth to catch fire. The couple allegedly pressed a hot iron against her body, leaving her with multiple burns.

Zainab’s mother, a resident of Machar Colony in Mauripur, told police that her daughter had been working as a domestic helper for the past three months. She claimed that the couple forced Zainab to work without rest and subjected her to harsh punishments over minor mistakes.

The accused were arrested shortly after the incident, and a case was registered against them. During court proceedings, the defense lawyer expressed regret over the incident but claimed that the complainant was attempting to blackmail the couple.
