Karachi Floods Heavy Rains Submerge Streets Residents Evacuated
Heavy Rains Trigger Severe Flooding in Karachi, Residents Struggle to Evacuate
Karachi – Heavy rains continued to lash Balochistan’s Kirthar mountain range as well as the Gadap and Kathore areas, causing multiple streams to swell and flood surrounding neighborhoods.
The Mool, Khudeji, and Jaranda streams merged into the Malir stream, raising its water level significantly. Meanwhile, the Lyari stream also saw rising waters, inundating low-lying areas around Malir. Floodwaters entered homes, forcing residents to seek safer locations.
A major surge of water hit the Lyari Expressway, where two people were swept away but later rescued. Floodwaters carried away household belongings and even entered a mosque in the Nishtar Basti area. In Sohrab Goth, Hasan, and Nauman Colony, water levels rose chest-high, prompting urgent pleas for help from residents.
Rescue efforts are underway, with volunteers from Edhi, Chhipa, and Rescue 1122 actively evacuating people. Police and traffic officials are deployed to manage the roads, but government representatives and local authorities have largely remained absent from the affected areas.
Floodwaters have also trapped residents in homes in Nishtar Basti and Essa Nagri. The Central Command and Control has activated water rescue teams, and Rescue 1122 continues to work on evacuating stranded residents.
