Karachi Floods Paralyze Roads Stranding Commuters

Karachi Roads Turn into Chaos as Flooding Strands Thousands of Commuters

KARACHI – The recent heavy rainfall has brought the city to a standstill, leaving dozens of vehicles and motorcycles abandoned across major roads. Stretching from the National Stadium to Civic Center, countless cars and bikes remain stranded as citizens were forced to abandon them due to fuel shortages and mechanical failures.

Thousands of office-goers were seen waiting for hours beside their stalled vehicles, while mechanics across the city faced overwhelming demand, often charging exorbitant fees to assist stranded commuters.

Reports from Jinnah Hospital revealed that patients discharged from the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) as early as 6 pm were unable to leave due to waterlogged roads, leaving many stranded late into the night.

Floodwaters continue to accumulate across Karachi, with notable congestion around Guru Mandir, M.A. Jinnah Road, and the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry. Stalled vehicles are still blocking Shahrah-e-Faisal, and water remains stagnant near the State Bank building on I.I. Chundrigar Road, Tower, Shahin Complex, and surrounding areas.

In response to the flooding, the Sindh government has declared a public holiday in the city. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued warnings of more heavy rains, with the Director General of Meteorology highlighting that Karachi experienced extraordinary rainfall over the past 24 hours. He stressed that without proper drainage, even lighter downpours could result in severe urban flooding.
