Karachi Monsoon Update Orangi Saadi Town Receive Nearly 200mm Rain
Karachi Records Heavy Rainfall as Monsoon Grips Sindh
KARACHI — The ongoing monsoon spell has brought heavy showers to Karachi, with several areas receiving nearly 200mm of rainfall over the past two days, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported on Thursday.
According to the latest figures, Saadi Town topped the list with 197mm of rain, followed closely by Orangi Town and Nazimabad, which recorded 194mm each. Jinnah Terminal saw 184mm, while Surjani Town received 179mm, Shara-e-Faisal 177mm, Korangi 178.6mm, University Road 173mm, Defence 159mm, and Gulshan-e-Maymar 142mm. Overall, the city averaged 185.9mm of rainfall.
On Wednesday alone, Orangi Town recorded the highest single-day downpour at 113mm. Shara-e-Faisal received 43mm, Keamari 31mm, Korangi 35.6mm, University Road and PAF Masroor Base 24mm each, Defence Phase-V 20mm, while Saadi Town saw 15.9mm. Gulshan-e-Maymar experienced the lowest rainfall at just 6.8mm.
Beyond Karachi, several parts of Sindh also witnessed significant rainfall. Tando Jam received 67mm, Hyderabad recorded 36mm at the airport and 35mm in the city, while parts of Tharparkar — Kaloi (30mm), Diplo (21mm), Chhachhro (6mm), and Nagar Parkar (2mm) — also saw showers. Thatta and Badin received 26mm each, Mirpur Khas 16mm, Shaheed Benazirabad 10mm, Chhore 8mm, Sakrand 6mm, Dadu 4mm, and Padidan 3mm.
Authorities have warned that more rain is expected in the coming days as the monsoon system continues over southern Sindh.
