Karachi Mayor Announces Mangroves & Sewage Plans
Karachi Mayor Highlights Development, Mangrove Drive, and Sewage Treatment Plans
Karachi – Speaking at an inauguration ceremony, Mayor Murtaza Wahab urged citizens to move past negativity, emphasizing that significant development projects are underway across the city.
He announced that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) plans to plant mangroves along the Native Jetty. “We have planted the maximum number of mangroves in the world,” the mayor claimed. He further added that mangrove parks could also be developed at Port Qasim, Malir, and KPT.
Talking about Bagh Ibne Qasim, which spans 130 acres, Wahab noted that visitor numbers remain low. “Even with 130 acres, barely 130 people visit the park. We need to add more amusement spots to attract visitors,” he said.
Addressing the city’s sewage issues, the mayor stated that untreated sewage is currently being discharged into the sea. “We are working on two new sewage treatment plants. Once completed, wastewater will be treated before entering the sea,” he explained.
These projects, he added, will benefit both local industries and residents of Korangi and Ibrahim Haideri.
