Karachi Power Restored Amid Floods
Karachi Power Restoration Efforts Continue Amid Flooded Streets
Karachi – Despite widespread waterlogging and heavy traffic congestion, K-Electric (KE) crews have continued their efforts to restore power across the city. Low-lying areas, where stagnant water has made access difficult and risky, were particularly affected.
At the height of the recent rains, around 800 out of over 2,100 feeders experienced outages. KE teams, however, remained on the ground, prioritizing the restoration of electricity as soon as conditions allowed. Key infrastructure, including power plants and grid stations, continued to operate normally.
KE officials maintained close communication with city administration and civic agencies, providing updates on the power situation and coordinating response efforts. The utility also worked alongside the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to monitor rainfall forecasts, identify high-risk areas, and plan resource deployment effectively.
“Our teams have been working through tough conditions to restore electricity safely and as quickly as possible,” said Sadia Dada, Chief Distribution and Marcomms Officer at KE. “Temporary shutdowns in waterlogged areas were implemented purely for public safety, with restoration prioritized as soon as it was safe to do so.”
KE also emphasized public safety during the monsoon season. Citizens were urged to stay away from electrical poles, meters, service brackets, and tangled wires. The utility warned against operating internal wiring or water pumps with wet hands or in standing water, advising households to rely only on certified electricians for any electrical faults.
Preliminary investigations confirmed that none of KE’s infrastructure was involved in the reported electrocution incidents during the rainfall. No broken wires were reported from any affected areas.
As monsoon rains continue, KE stressed that safeguarding public safety requires both active on-ground response and citizen cooperation. Following safety protocols and coordinating closely with civic agencies remains key to minimizing risks and maintaining the city’s power resilience.
For electricity emergencies or to report hazards, residents can contact KE via the 118 call center, the KE website, KE Live App, WhatsApp service, or KE’s social media channels.
