Karachi Weather Alert Heavy Rain Forecast Till September 10
Karachi Braces for More Rain as PMD Issues Fresh Alert
Karachi — Light showers on Sunday morning brought some relief to several areas of Karachi, including Metroville, SITE, Baldia, and Mauripur, while drizzle was reported in Defence, Korangi Road, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Burns Road, and MA Jinnah Road.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the current rainy spell in the port city is expected to continue until September 10, with the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall on September 9 and 10.
Today’s temperature is likely to touch 34°C, while humidity levels remain uncomfortably high at 91 percent, with winds blowing at 11 km/h.
Authorities have urged residents to stay cautious as more showers are forecast over the coming days.
Earlier, the Met Office had warned of widespread rainfall across several districts of Sindh between September 7 and 9. Areas expected to receive scattered heavy to very heavy downpours include Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Karachi.
On Saturday, Tharparkar’s Nagarparkar recorded 80mm of rain, followed by 51mm in Mithi, 30mm in Kaloi, and 29mm in Diplo and Chhore.
The PMD has cautioned that torrential rains could trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas of Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas, Tharparkar, and several other Sindh districts. The situation may worsen further in flood-hit regions of Punjab due to fresh downpours.
Meteorologists linked the rain system to a low-pressure area that developed over India’s Madhya Pradesh, which has now moved into Rajasthan and adjoining parts of southeastern Sindh, strengthening monsoon currents over Sindh and eastern Punjab.
