Karachi Rain Alert as PMD Warns of Flash Floods Nationwide

Rain Forecast for Karachi as PMD Issues Flood and Landslide Alert Across Pakistan

KARACHI — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall for Karachi and other districts of Sindh between July 15 and 17, as part of an active monsoon system moving across the country.

Karachi witnessed light drizzling in various areas early Monday under overcast skies, with sea breeze partially restored and gentle winds sweeping the city. The PMD has predicted more drizzling or light rainfall later this evening or night.

Daytime temperatures in the port city are expected to soar above 35°C, accompanied by high humidity levels reaching up to 78%, raising concerns of heat-related discomfort amid the rainy spell.

Meanwhile, the PMD has issued a red alert for flash floods and potential landslides in several northern and hilly regions due to heavy to very heavy rainfall. The warning applies to areas including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Murree, Galliyat, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, northeastern Punjab, Dera Ghazi Khan, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and parts of Balochistan.

The department warns that the strong monsoon system could trigger flash flooding in streams and urban areas, as well as landslides in mountainous regions, particularly from Monday evening through Tuesday, July 15.

Residents in affected areas are advised to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities.
