Karachi Schools to Open on Saturdays After Rain Closures
Karachi Schools to Hold Classes on Saturdays to Recover Lost Time
Karachi – To make up for the disruption in academic schedules caused by frequent weather-related holidays, the Sindh government has announced that Saturdays will now be observed as regular teaching days.
Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah said the step is necessary to recover learning hours lost during repeated closures. “Saturdays will be designated as teaching days,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of minimizing the academic setback faced by students.
The decision comes after heavy monsoon rains once again brought life to a standstill in Karachi. Persistent rainfall over the past two days has inundated low-lying areas, swelling the Malir and Lyari rivers and leaving major roads waterlogged. Intermittent showers, ranging from light to heavy, have severely affected daily routines across the city.
On Wednesday, the provincial government had ordered the closure of all public and private schools, colleges, and universities across Karachi Division, citing a weather advisory from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), which forecast more rain, wind, and thundershowers.
Officials say resuming classes on Saturdays will help reduce the academic loss caused by these unavoidable weather emergencies.
