University Announces Work-From-Home Amid Karachi Rains
KARACHI — The University of Karachi has announced a shift to work-from-home arrangements for staff and students following the city’s latest spell of monsoon rains.
In a notification issued by Registrar Dr. Azam Khan, the university and its affiliated colleges and institutes have been directed to immediately implement remote work policies. Online classes will continue as scheduled, while all examinations planned for September 9, 2025, have been postponed. Fresh dates will be announced later.
The decision comes as Karachi witnessed widespread rainfall on Tuesday. Showers were reported in several key areas, including Shahrah-e-Faisal, Tariq Road, Saddar, M.A. Jinnah Road, Scheme 33, and Safoora Chowrangi, leading to slow-moving traffic. Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Jamshed Road, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and University Road also recorded rainfall, along with Nazimabad, SITE Area, Orangi Town, and nearby localities.
While the downpour offered relief from the recent heatwave, it also renewed concerns over waterlogging in low-lying neighborhoods. City authorities have been placed on alert to tackle drainage issues as the monsoon spell continues.
