Committee Formed to Probe Journalist Khawar Hussain’s Death
KARACHI – The Sindh police have formed a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the mysterious death of journalist Khawar Hussain.
According to an official notification, the committee will be headed by Additional IGP CTD Azad Khan and include DIG West Irfan Baloch and SSP Sanghar Abid Baloch. The team has been directed to submit its findings to the IGP Sindh within two days.
Meanwhile, the Sindh government has also announced the formation of a medical board to conduct a detailed post-mortem examination. Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said the board would consist of senior doctors and forensic experts, and was constituted on the request of the victim’s family and members of the journalist community.
CCTV footage recorded shortly before Hussain’s death has also surfaced. The video shows the journalist parking his vehicle outside a private restaurant in Sanghar, where his bullet-riddled body was later discovered.
DIG Shaheed Benazirabad, Faisal Bashir Memon, confirmed that investigators are carefully reviewing the footage. He noted that no witnesses reported hearing any gunshots. “The car windows were closed, and no one else was seen around the vehicle,” he said, adding that call data records would be retrieved within 24 hours.
According to police, the pistol recovered from the car was registered in Hussain’s name and was kept for personal safety. Footage further revealed that before his death, Hussain had parked his car and twice approached the restaurant staff to inquire about the washroom before returning to sit inside his vehicle.
