Flash Floods Ravage KP, Leaving Dead and Displaced in Their Wake

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is reeling after severe flash floods and heavy rains swept through the region, claiming lives and destroying homes. According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), at least 10 people have died, including two women and eight children. Another 14 people—11 men, two women, and one child—have been reported injured.

The PDMA reported that 30 houses have suffered damage, with five completely demolished and 25 partially destroyed. The hardest-hit areas include Swat, Buner, Bajaur, Torghar, Mansehra, Shangla, and Battagram, with Bajaur and Battagram bearing the brunt of the disaster.

Rescue operations are ongoing, as PDMA teams, local authorities, and volunteers work tirelessly to provide relief and assist stranded residents. Survivors have urged the government to accelerate rescue efforts and arrange immediate shelter for those left homeless.

In Mansehra, heavy rains, lightning, and a cloudburst triggered additional flooding, causing further property damage and casualties. Meanwhile, in the Swat districts, including Mingora, Malam Jabba, Haji Baba, Khwazakhela, and Marghazar, low-lying areas remain submerged. Hundreds of homes are underwater, and several localities are cut off. Many residents, including women and children, have taken refuge on rooftops, while others are evacuating on their own as conditions worsen.

The PDMA has warned that intermittent heavy rains are expected to continue until August 21, potentially worsening the situation in vulnerable districts. Authorities have urged residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
