KP Protests Removal of Hydropower Projects from National Plan
Tariq Sadozai, who is the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) for Energy and Power, has written a letter to the Federal Minister for Energy, Awais Leghari.
In the letter, he said that the KP government is very upset about the removal of two important power projects from the national energy plan (IGCAP), and they will raise this issue at a higher level.
KP Protests Removal of Two Power Projects from National Plan
He said removing these projects is unfair and feels like the federal government is targeting the province.
The two projects are:
Gabral Kalam (88 megawatts)
Madyan (157 megawatts)
These projects are part of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Hydropower and Renewable Energy Programme and are planned to be completed by 2027 with help from the World Bank.
They were approved earlier by national bodies like NEPRA, the Council of Common Interest (CCI), and ECNEC.
Tariq Sadozai said removing them now is against the Constitution.
He also pointed out that other big projects like Mohmand Dam, Dasu Dam, and Tarbela Extension-V are under the control of the federal government and have been included in the plan.
He asked the federal government to put the two KP projects back in the plan and let the province complete them.
