Monsoon Rains Kill 162 in Pakistan, More Rain Expected from August 5
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has confirmed that recent monsoon rains have caused serious damage in parts of Pakistan. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, two women and a child died due to heavy rainfall and flooding. Nineteen houses were partly damaged, two houses were destroyed, and two cattle also died, according to PDMA KP.
In Punjab, PDMA has announced that the sixth spell of monsoon rains will begin on August 5. District administrations have been told to stay alert during the upcoming rains.
DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia said that the Indus River is at a low flood level at Kalabagh, Chashma, and Taunsa. The Chenab River is also at a low flood level at Khanki Headworks.
People are advised not to swim or bathe in rivers, canals, streams, or drains during the rains, as it can be dangerous.
So far, 162 people have died and 571 others have been injured in rain-related incidents in Punjab this monsoon season. Additionally, 214 houses were damaged and 121 cattle were lost due to the extreme weather.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
