NDMA Warns of Possible Flooding as Tarbela Reservoir Reaches Full Capacity
ISLAMABAD — The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning of potential flooding after the opening of spillways released up to 250,000 cusecs of water into the Indus River and adjoining waterways.
In its statement, the NDMA cautioned that rising water levels could pose risks to nearby districts and low-lying areas. Residents have been urged to remain alert, avoid going near rivers and drains, and strictly follow safety instructions issued by the local administration.
The authority has also directed officials to keep communities informed about the evolving situation and ensure the timely dissemination of alerts.
Earlier, the Flood Forecasting Division reported that the Tarbela reservoir has reached its maximum conservation level, prompting controlled releases of water to manage storage capacity.
Authorities have assured that precautionary measures are being taken, but emphasized the need for public cooperation to minimize risks.
