Meet the hairiest family from Mexico in the world

According to Guinness World Records, a family from Mexico will go down in history as the most hairy people, with a unique ailment known as congenital generalized hypertrichosis.

Four members of the 19-person family—Victor Larry, Gabriel Danny, Luisa, and Jesus—had a significant amount of facial and body hair, and their female coworkers have light-to-medium hair as well.

The video posted on Instagram revealed that the men in the family, who have had similar ailments for five generations, have thicker hair on almost every part of their body.

The post said that all of the family members helped scientists analyze the gene that causes CGH, and as a consequence, strong evidence linking the gene to many markers on the long arm of the X chromosome was discovered.

On its website, Guinness World Records stated: “In a rare instance, the four family members suffer from congenital generalized hypertrichosis (CGH), an incredibly rare genetic condition.”

Hypertrichosis is a congenital condition that is noticeable from birth in the greatest hairy family. It can manifest at birth or develop over time.

The condition “may be associated with mild facial abnormalities [including nasal openings that are tipped upwards and moderate protrusion of the jaw], and occasionally teeth anomalies and deafness,” according to data from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences.

The National Library of Medicine linked it to significant psychosocial trauma despite its natural state, “because of the cosmetic disfigurement it causes.”
