Shakira sparks controversy online with an unexpected "Barbie" assessment

Shakira sparked a fresh online controversy when she referred to the popular movie Barbie as “emasculating.”

For those who are unaware, the Colombian singer said in her latest review of Margot Robbie’s star-studded film that her boys, Sasha, 9, and Milan, 11, detested the trend-setting picture.

The Waka Waka singer admitted, “My sons absolutely hated it,” in an interview with Allure. They perceived it as dehumanizing. And to some extent, I concur.”

Shakira went on, “I’m a mother of two sons. I want them to appreciate women and feel powerful as well.”

The pop culture is praised by the singer for giving women a voice and empowering them without demeaning males.

She added ,”I believe in giving women all the tools and the trust that we can do it all without losing our essence, without losing our femininity.”

According to Shakira, men and women serve distinct roles in society. She went on to say, “We complement each other, and that complement should not be lost.”

Some of Shakira’s fans defended her when the Hips Don’t Lie singer’s statements went viral online, while others thought her sentiments were disgusting.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, a fan remarked, “Shakira did a fantastic job on the Barbie movie. She should not apologize for this, but she will undoubtedly feel pressure to do so now. “Emasculating men is the death of civilizations.”

“Women don’t owe femininity to anyone, not even themselves,” said a different fan. “What an awful take.” disappointing.

“Out of all the awful Barbie takes Shakira being the worst one was not something I ever imagined,” a fan said.
