Orioles Beat Yankees 4-2

Mountcastle Powers Orioles Past Yankees, Rogers Shines on Mound

BALTIMORE — Ryan Mountcastle drove in two runs, including a solo homer, as the Baltimore Orioles edged the New York Yankees 4-2 on Friday night to even their four-game series at Camden Yards.

Mountcastle’s sixth home run of the season opened the scoring in the second inning. He later added a sacrifice fly in the sixth, helping Baltimore build a 3-0 lead after Samuel Basallo’s grounder brought in another run. Gunnar Henderson added insurance in the seventh with an RBI double, finishing the night 2-for-3 with a walk.

On the mound, Trevor Rogers (9-2) delivered a standout performance. The left-hander tossed six shutout innings, allowing just one hit — a leadoff single by Austin Wells in the sixth. He struck out seven and walked two, earning his first September win.

The Yankees, who had rolled to a 7-0 victory in the series opener, couldn’t keep the bats hot this time. Jazz Chisholm Jr. provided the only spark with a two-run homer in the seventh off Dietrich Enns, his 30th of the year. With the blast, Chisholm became only the third player in franchise history to record a 30-30 season in his first full year with the club, joining Bobby Bonds (1975) and Alfonso Soriano (2002-03).

Starter Will Warren (8-8) took the loss for New York, giving up three runs — only one earned — over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked two. The Yankees mustered just four hits all night and are now 0-4 in Warren’s starts this month, though they’ve already secured a winning record on the road at 42-37.

Baltimore’s bullpen closed the door, with Rico Garcia and Keegan Akin combining for three scoreless innings. Akin earned his eighth save.

The win was Baltimore’s fourth in its last five games, improving its record to 73-81. Under interim manager Tony Mansolino, the Orioles have gone 58-53, showing steady progress down the stretch.

The series continues Saturday with the third of four games.
