Pakistan Army Intensifies Relief Efforts as Floods Claim 229 Lives in KP
Peshawar – Devastating cloudbursts and flash floods have left at least 229 people dead and more than 40 injured across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to official reports.
The Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps (FC) have launched extensive relief operations in Swat and Bajaur, where helicopters under IGFC North are delivering food and essential supplies to stranded families. Rescue teams are working around the clock to evacuate residents from flood-hit areas to safer zones, with the operation continuing until all affected people are relocated.
Security officials confirmed that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has reaffirmed the Army’s full support for flood victims, pledging additional troops and resources to strengthen relief efforts. Alongside their salaries, soldiers have contributed one day’s rations — over 600 tons — to be distributed among displaced families.
Field Marshal Munir has also instructed the Corps of Engineers to accelerate the repair of damaged bridges and build temporary crossings where necessary. Specialised support, including the Army’s K-9 unit and an Urban Search and Rescue team, has been deployed to assist operations.
Army aviation units, including helicopters, are already active in the flood-hit districts, while more resources are being dispatched on the orders of the COAS.
Officials stressed that the Pakistan Army stands firmly with the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during this difficult time, ensuring that relief and rehabilitation remain a top priority.
