Pakistan, Bangladesh Step Up Trade and Diplomatic Engagement
Islamabad/Dhaka – Pakistan and Bangladesh are witnessing renewed momentum in their bilateral relations, with recent meetings highlighting stronger trade, economic, and diplomatic cooperation.
During a session with Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) President Taskeen Ahmed and board members, Mr. Khan noted a sharp rise in trade and commercial activities between the two countries. He identified pharmaceuticals, automotive, and mineral sectors as promising areas drawing growing interest from businesses on both sides.
Mr. Khan assured that Pakistan remains committed to providing a business-friendly environment, following the recent visit of the Commerce Minister. He emphasized that closer private-sector partnerships could pave the way for new opportunities in trade and investment. Participants described the networking session as a vital step toward deepening business-to-business ties.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed satisfaction with the “positive trajectory” of Pakistan-Bangladesh relations. In a meeting with Dr. A. F. M. Khalid Hossain, Adviser on Religious Affairs to Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, the prime minister underlined the importance of sustained high-level exchanges to maintain bilateral momentum.
Welcoming the delegation, which also included Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Md Iqbal Hussain Khan, Shehbaz Sharif said the two nations share deep historical, cultural, and familial bonds. He recalled his earlier interactions with Bangladeshi leaders in New York and Cairo and praised Professor Yunus’s leadership, particularly his contributions to poverty alleviation and regional cooperation.
Dr. Hossain conveyed Professor Yunus’s condolences over the loss of lives and property in the recent floods in Pakistan, along with an offer of relief assistance. He reaffirmed that the relationship between Pakistan and Bangladesh rests on brotherly ties, shared faith, and a common vision for the future.
