After a boat capsizes close to Thatta, at least 14 fishermen are missing
According to local accounts, at least 14 fisherman went missing on Wednesday after their boat capsized close to Thatta.
Of the approximately forty-five fisherman on board the Al-Asad, only thirty-one were saved following the disaster.
The fishermen, who come from the biggest fishing village in Karachi, Ibrahim Hyderi, left on Monday afternoon for a fishing trip and were scheduled to return on Wednesday.
According to survivor Riaz, they were not aware of bad weather and the boat was overcrowded. “I couldn’t save him despite all my efforts,” he stated, adding that “my brother was also with me.”
Chairman of the Pakistan FisherFolk Forum (PFF), Mehran Shah, released the list of missing fishermen: Sajjad, Koki, Hasho, Ahmed Bangali, Shakeel Bengali, Muneer, Alam Bengali, Qayoom, Hussain, Noor Alam, Rahim, Sher Mallah, and Riaz Ashraf.
Shah declared, “The families are in agony,” and that urgent rescue attempts were required.
He chastised the government for its passivity, pointing out that the Sindh government has not made any announcements or paid the bereaved families a visit to convey its sympathies.
“This is not the first incident where fishermen have been left at the mercy of nature,” Shah stated.
departed Sikandar, Koki’s father, begged for his son’s return, pointing out that Koki’s wedding was scheduled for after the fasting month of Ramadan.
He said that his kid was the family’s only source of income. Koki’s mother, Najma, echoed her husband’s pleas to the authorities to ensure her son’s safe return.
