Shehbaz Sharif and Xi Jinping Meet to Strengthen Pakistan-China Ties
Beijing: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Xi Jinping met at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing to discuss the deepening bilateral relationship and future cooperation between Pakistan and China. Both leaders described the ties between their countries as “unique and unparalleled” and stressed the need for stronger collaboration.
During the meeting, the two nations reaffirmed their commitment to an “iron-clad” and “all-weather” strategic partnership, highlighting the importance of continued joint efforts on regional and global issues.
Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized Pakistan’s eagerness to work closely with China on the next phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which includes five new corridors. He also congratulated President Xi on the success of the SCO Council of Heads of State Summit in Tianjin and extended his felicitations on the 80th anniversary of the World Anti-Fascist War.
Praising President Xi’s leadership, the prime minister said China’s rapid progress toward modernization serves as an inspiration for Pakistan. He highlighted the country’s pride in China’s achievements and expressed Pakistan’s readiness to collaborate on transformative initiatives.
Shehbaz also thanked China for its steadfast support of Pakistan’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and socio-economic development. He underscored the significance of CPEC as a flagship project under President Xi’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), noting that it would strengthen the shared future of both nations.
The prime minister commended President Xi’s efforts to promote multilateralism and voiced Pakistan’s full support for initiatives such as the Global Governance, Global Development, Global Security, and Global Civilization initiatives, which aim to foster peace, stability, and development worldwide.
President Xi affirmed that China would continue to support Pakistan’s economic growth and development, especially with the upcoming second phase of CPEC focusing on Pakistan’s key economic sectors.
Prime Minister Shehbaz concluded the meeting by inviting President Xi Jinping to visit Pakistan next year to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
