Pakistan’s New Hyperspectral Satellite Set to Boost Science, Agriculture, and Environmental Monitoring

Pakistan has taken a major step forward in space technology with the successful launch of its new hyperspectral satellite, developed under the leadership of the national space agency, SUPARCO. The satellite is expected to accelerate progress in a range of sectors, including science, technology, agriculture, and environmental management.

The advanced satellite will play a key role in mineral exploration, agricultural development, flood monitoring, glacier melt assessment, and air quality studies.

Speaking at a workshop marking the satellite’s launch, SUPARCO Chairman Muhammad Yousuf Khan said, “This satellite will provide accurate, high-quality data on minerals, vegetation, soil, and water. Surveys that previously took years can now be completed in just days.”

He added that the project would enable more effective and sustainable use of natural resources, allowing policymakers and researchers to make timely, evidence-based decisions. “This marks an important milestone for Pakistan’s economic growth and environmental management,” he said.

SUPARCO officials highlighted that the agency is committed to protecting national interests while keeping pace with global standards, positioning Pakistan as an emerging hub for space technology in the region.

The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission confirmed that the satellite, launched on July 31, 2025, from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Center (XSLC), has successfully reached orbit. It has already established stable communication with ground stations and is transmitting high-resolution images for national use.
