Imran demands equal laws for everybody and denounces the Bahawalnagar event
Former prime minister and leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, strongly denounced the Bahawalnagar event on Tuesday, saying that everyone in the nation should be treated equally under the law.
The event, which became well-known after images appeared on social media showing people in army uniforms allegedly attacking police officers, infuriated both the public and media.
In a statement released on Friday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) addressed the situation and emphasized that the military and police authorities worked together to address and resolve the issue as soon as possible.
ISPR expressed sadness that certain individuals with nefarious intent took advantage of the circumstances to spread false narratives on social media with the intention of causing rifts amongst government agencies and state institutions.
Additionally, the Punjab Police criticized what they described as “false propaganda” about the event on a number of social media sites.
After meeting with Khan in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan and senior politician Sher Afzal Marwat conveyed the word from Khan.
In interviews with the media, they both bemoaned the obstacle of a glass partition between them from Khan, which limited their freedom of speech.
Khan’s position that Pakistan cannot afford to have two distinct sets of laws was reaffirmed by the PTI leaders. Gohar Khan revealed that Omar Ayub Khan and he had been sent by Khan to organize the party in Punjab.
