Pakistan Reviews Iran-Israel Conflict Impact on Security
Top political and military leaders of Pakistan, including General Sahir Shamshad (Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee), Army Chief Asif Munir, and heads of the Navy and Air Force, along with federal ministers, are attending an important meeting.
Sources say the meeting will review the current situation in the region after the recent Iran-Israel conflict. The focus will be on how this situation could affect Pakistan’s national security and foreign policy.
Background:
Pakistan earlier strongly criticized Israel for attacking Iran’s nuclear sites, which are protected by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Pakistan called the strikes illegal and dangerous.
During an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, Pakistan’s representative, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said it was disappointing that the global calls for peace and dialogue were ignored.
He added that Pakistan has always followed international law and the UN Charter. He repeated Pakistan’s clear opposition to Israeli attacks and fully supported Iran’s right to defend itself under international law.
