Pakistan Launches Nationwide Polio Vaccination Drive Targeting Over 28 Million Children

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has kicked off a massive polio vaccination campaign, aiming to administer oral polio drops to more than 28 million children across the country. Over 240,000 polio workers are participating in the nationwide effort, according to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC).

In Punjab, the campaign will target over 4.1 million children in seven districts. However, the drive has been temporarily postponed in nine flood-affected districts.

Sindh will vaccinate more than 8.9 million children across 25 districts, while in Balochistan, over 2.1 million children in 26 districts are set to receive the drops. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will cover more than 5.7 million children in 27 districts, with the southern region’s campaign scheduled to formally begin on September 15.

Polio vaccination drives are also planned in two districts each of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. In Islamabad, over 450,000 children will receive polio drops to protect them from lifelong disability.

Pakistan has reported 21 polio cases so far in 2025. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported 13 cases, Sindh six, and Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan one case each.
