PTI cancels internal party elections

PML-N workers continues its purchase of votes

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) delayed Friday’s intra-party elections till after February 8 a day after announcing the schedule for new inter-party polls.

A updated schedule will be released by the party following the general elections. It’s important to note that the date was established for February 5 in the timetable that Federal Election Commissioner PTI Raoof Hassan issued yesterday.

The party attributed the delay to PTI venues being “unlawfully blocked by the administration” and members’ obligations in their individual seats.

The PTI Federal Election Commission expressed its satisfaction in releasing the election timetable for the PTI intra-party elections, which are intended to choose the party’s chairman and central and provincial organizations, in an official statement on Thursday.

According to the PTI announcement, party members who were active as of January 31 would be able to vote for their preferred chairman or panel candidate at designated polling places across Pakistan. Furthermore, the ‘Raabta Application Intra-Party Election Module’ allows party members to use their voting rights.

The Election Rules, 2020 include detailed information about every panel taking part in the intra-party election as well as an explanation of the complex electoral process.

Both the Raabta app and the party’s official website will have access to these guidelines.

The polls were supposed to open at 10 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. Prior to the intra-party elections, the precise locations of the polling places and the date of the appellate tribunal will be announced.

The PTI further said that between February 1 and February 2, 2024, interested candidates may get nomination papers from the PTI Central Secretariat or the official website. Nomination papers can be turned in electronically via email or in person at the national and provincial secretariats.

The results of the intra-party election were scheduled to be officially announced on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.
