Ramazan transmission is attacked by Mishi Khan

Following the addition of Ahmad Shah, the viral phenomenon, and his group of cute brothers to the list of kids who watch his Ramazan program, Waseem Badami recently invited Shiraz, the face of the Shirazi village vlogs YouTube channel, who is also incredibly famous. Short clips from Shiraz’s first appearance on the show went viral, showing Waseem passing the mike to him to perform a naat. Videos of the broadcast featuring the toddler were posted, along with greetings.

Though many people love the children’s appearances on the show, there is some validity to the criticism over the negative effects of exposing young people to the spotlight and perhaps long workdays. Mishi Khan addressed the same on Instagram.

“Why why why?” was the first thing Mishi wrote as a caption for her Instagram video. “Why did you have to take away Shiraz’s natural, lovely innocence in order to schedule him for the Ramadan transmission? Ahmad Shah used to sound more like an adult, but that’s simply because of the unfavorable conditions in the city. For God’s sake, please don’t take away the children’s innocence and leave them alone,” Mishi pleaded.

She bemoaned in the video: “I am deeply saddened by the fact that a child, who gained such popularity on social media that people outside of Pakistan watch his videos with great interest, was awarded a silver button by YouTube, and amassed one million Instagram followers—he’s so adorable, and he says such natural, innocent, and sweet things. He is now a member of a Ramazan transmission, which saddens me. Have none of you found someone else?”

“First, you destroyed Ahmad Shah innocence and made him into a city adult,” she went on. You take away their youth. Why was it necessary? He had already achieved fame via his own perseverance. You have swooped in like hawks. The times have to be ridiculous. He is a child. He must go to bed. To participate in the broadcast for the whole month, he needs to be awake at Sehri and Iftari times. Spare at least one person. Allow someone to remain pure and natural. You take them to the cities, where you begin your travesties. I’m really sorry.”

“I also want to ask his father – he is already so well known,” continued Mishi. Why was consenting to this necessary? You were so intrigued that he visits the city, sleeps little, and engages in city gossip, undermining his innocence? Which kind of individuals are you?” Mishi, enraged, said, “Shame on all of you.”

Her reaction to Shiraz being added to the Ramazan broadcast brings up an important point: is it really appropriate for young children to be in the spotlight? It also highlights the necessity of making sure that rules are put in place and carried out in a way that prioritizes the welfare of the children concerned.
