Mushahid Calls Pakistan-Saudi Defense Pact ‘Historic’ Amid Regional Tensions
ISLAMABAD — In a statement shared on the social media platform X, Senator Mushahid Hussain described the newly signed Pakistan-Saudi Arabia Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement as “historic and timely,” highlighting its importance in the current geopolitical landscape.
“This Strategic Defense Pact, the first of its kind between two major Muslim states, is historic for three key reasons,” Mushahid said.
He outlined the reasons as follows:
U.S. Inaction: The agreement comes after what Mushahid described as the “betrayal” of Arab interests by the United States, pointing to Washington’s silence on Israeli military actions—even those affecting Qatar, a U.S. ally.
Regional Threats: He highlighted Israel’s expansionist agenda, calling it the “Greater Israel” project, which he said targets Palestine, Qatar, Iran, Lebanon, and Yemen.
Pakistan’s Military Strength: Mushahid also referenced Pakistan’s victory over India in May 2025, emphasizing that the country demonstrated the “will, skill, and military capability” to challenge a regional adversary.
He added that Pakistan has “quietly displaced the West as the primary guarantor of Middle East security.”
The defense agreement contains a crucial clause: “Any aggression against either country shall be considered an aggression against both.” This underscores the deepening military and strategic partnership between Islamabad and Riyadh, especially amid growing regional tensions.
