The military believes that the upcoming election will improve democracy
The Pakistani military has praised the country for the “generally peaceful and violence-free” way in which the general elections were conducted and has expressed the hope that this will act as a “catalyst for further strengthening democracy in Pakistan.”
The ISPR, the military’s media wing, released a statement saying, “We sincerely hope that our sacrifices will not be in vain and that this election will serve as a catalyst for further strengthening democracy in Pakistan, and that it will pave the way for the realisation of the aspirations of the people of Pakistan.”
It said, “The armed forces stand ready to provide unwavering support in safeguarding the democratic traditions of our state and remain dedicated to upholding peace and security in the country.”
According to the ISPR, the armed forces and other law enforcement agencies (LEAs) are honored to have been instrumental in ensuring security for the holy electoral process, supporting civil authority, and upholding Pakistan’s constitution.
It further stated that around 7,800 QRFs and over 6,000 specially chosen “most sensitive” polling places had 137,000 army soldiers and civil defense deployed to guarantee a safe and secure atmosphere for the general people. “We owe gratitude to other law enforcement organizations for collaborating with the armed forces to protect the democratic process.”
The ISPR claims that the military remained steadfast and successfully maintained peace and security throughout Pakistan in spite of 51 cowardly terrorist acts, the most of which occurred in K-P and Balochistan and were intended to sabotage the election process.
According to the ISPR, twelve people—ten of them were members of the security and law enforcement agencies—embraced shahadat, and 39 more were hurt in these attacks. It further stated, “Many possible threats were neutralized through proactive intelligence manoeuvres and swift action, underscoring the unwavering commitment of our security agencies to protect the democratic rights of our citizens.” Five terrorists were also slain in other operations.
