Rain Storms Expected as Humid Weather Persists Across Pakistan

Weather to Stay Humid and Hot, Rain Expected Soon

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) says the weather will stay partly cloudy with high humidity, making it feel very hot and uncomfortable.

PMD also said that sea winds are blocked, so the heat in Karachi will continue. But from Friday, June 27, the weather may change. There could be dust storms, thunderstorms, and rain.

Lahore Rain Update

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Punjab said that Lahore airport area got 37mm of rain in the last 24 hours, but other parts of the city only got 4mm.

PDMA also shared rain updates from other cities:

Noorpur Thal – 29mm

Rawalpindi – 14mm

Gujranwala – 28mm

Sialkot – 11mm

Mianwali – 10mm

Hafizabad – 9mm

Sargodha – 5mm

Jhang – 4mm

Joharabad, Gujrat, Kasur – 1mm each

Light rain is also in Faisalabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sheikhupura, and Narowal

PDMA says more rain is expected soon in Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sargodha, and Sahiwal.

Heavy Rain Predicted This Monsoon

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) told the Senate last month that this monsoon season will bring more rain than usual, especially in:

Punjab – 50% to 60% more rain

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) – 15% to 30% more rain

Balochistan – 70% to 80% more rain

NDMA also said that Pakistan loses about $4 billion every year due to climate change. The heavier rains are expected between June 30 and September 15.
