PMD Forecasts Hot, Dry Weather as Punjab Declares Monsoon Season Over
ISLAMABAD — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced that no major rainfall is expected across most parts of the country in the coming days.
According to the forecast, flood-hit areas of Punjab and Sindh will continue to experience hot and dry conditions throughout next week. While temperatures in the upper regions are likely to remain moderate at night, daytime weather in the plains is expected to stay hot.
For today, the PMD predicts hot and dry conditions in most regions, with partly cloudy skies in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and nearby mountainous areas during the afternoon. Coastal areas are also expected to see partly cloudy weather.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has declared the monsoon season officially over. Director General Irfan Ali Kathia confirmed there is no forecast of further rainfall in the coming week and noted that water levels in flood-affected areas are now receding.
The PDMA reported that this year’s monsoon floods damaged 4,755 villages across 28 districts in Punjab. At least 123 people lost their lives, while more than 4.5 million residents were affected by the devastation.
