PTA Warns About Online Prize Scams

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a warning to the public about a rise in online fraud, where scammers lure people with fake prize money offers.

According to the advisory, fraudsters may ask victims to click on suspicious links or provide their banking details online to claim a prize.

The PTA has urged people to stay vigilant and report any suspicious calls or messages. Complaints can be filed through the PTA website here
or via the PTA mobile app.

Additionally, anyone who falls victim to online fraud is advised to contact the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) through their helpline at 1799.

Earlier, the PTA also warned mobile users to be cautious of hoax calls and unsolicited SMS messages that encourage subscribers to buy scratch cards and share the numbers to claim a cash prize.

A PTA spokesperson explained that in such cases, consumers risk losing the value of their scratch cards if they follow the instructions in the fraudulent messages. Mobile users are advised to verify any prize claims by contacting their mobile service provider immediately.
