PTCL Reports Partial Internet Disruption Due to Submarine Cable Cuts
Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has confirmed that partial disruptions in internet services across the country are linked to submarine cable cuts near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The incident has affected two major undersea cable systems — SMW4 and IMEWE.
In a statement shared on social media, PTCL said, “Submarine cable cuts have occurred in Saudi waters near Jeddah, impacting partial bandwidth capacity on SMW4 and IMEWE systems. As a result, internet users in Pakistan may experience some service degradation during peak hours.”
The company added that international partners are working urgently to resolve the issue, while local teams are arranging alternative bandwidth to minimize the impact on users.
Data from Down Detector revealed a spike in outage reports on Saturday. Complaints began rising overnight, reaching a peak at 10:09 AM with 16 reports, and later surged again at 2:00 PM with at least 14 more reports.
PTCL has assured customers that efforts are underway to restore full service as quickly as possible and thanked users for their patience during the disruption.
