Flood Alerts Issued in Punjab as Rivers Rise Across Region
The Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) has said there might be a low-level flood in the Jhelum River near Mangla.
A low flood is also expected in the Chenab River at Marala and in the Kabul River at Nowshera.
Because of recent rain in Punjab and nearby areas, water levels in rivers and dams are going up.
The FFD also warned of possible flash floods in the hilly areas of Dera Ghazi Khan and low to medium flooding in streams and drains in eastern Balochistan.
The weather department said cities like Lahore, Gujranwala, and Rawalpindi could face urban flooding.
Low to medium floods might also happen in the drains near the Chenab and Ravi rivers.
On Monday, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz told the government and emergency teams to stay on high alert due to the rising water levels in the Indus River near Attock.
On Tuesday, Punjab’s disaster management authority (PDMA) issued a flood alert. It said that while most rivers and streams in the province are at normal or low flood levels, the situation could change quickly.
