Punjab Villages Buried Under Sand After Deadly Floods
LAHORE – Relentless torrential rains and floodwaters flowing in from India have unleashed Punjab’s deadliest flood in recent years, leaving dozens dead, thousands homeless, and millions of acres of farmland devastated. Livestock losses have added further misery to the tragedy.
As waters slowly recede, grim stories continue to emerge from affected districts. In Mouza Kak Shaal, an entire village has been buried under sand, leaving nothing but barren plains where homes, fields, and lives once stood.
Local farmer Mian Iftikhar Nekokara, along with other villagers, is desperately digging through the sand with spades and hand tools in hopes of recovering what remains. “Around 22 to 25 houses and nearly 500 acres of farmland were first submerged in floods and are now buried under a thick layer of sand,” he said.
The devastation has been so severe that residents are using Google Earth to pinpoint where their homes once stood. Even tractors and livestock lie buried beneath the sand, leaving families with nothing to return to.
Nekokara expressed frustration at the absence of official help. “Three ministers have been elected from our constituency, yet no one has come forward to address our plight,” he lamented.
For villagers of Kak Shaal, the disaster is not just about lost crops or homes—it is about entire lives erased under a desert of sand.
