Floods Hit Qadirpur Gas Field 10 Wells Shut

Floodwaters Threaten Qadirpur Gas Field, Production Halted at 10 Wells

GHOTKI – Rising floodwaters in the Indus River have entered northern Sindh, submerging several villages in the katcha (riverine) belt and threatening key gas infrastructure.

According to officials, erosion caused by the flooding has damaged protection structures around the Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) facilities, sweeping away safety plates and allowing water to reach the ERW system of wells in Block-VI.

Sources at OGDCL confirmed that operations at 10 gas wells have been suspended for the past two days due to the inundation. “Gas production from these wells had to be halted as a precaution,” officials in Sukkur said.

Notably, the ERW platform — which had withstood the devastating 2010 super floods — has also been impacted this time.

The Qadirpur gas field, located in Sindh’s Ghotki district, is one of Pakistan’s largest natural gas reserves and plays a critical role in the country’s energy supply.
