Dengue Larvae Found at Chughtai Lab as Rawalpindi Grapples with Rising Cases
Rawalpindi – Authorities have registered a case at Bani Police Station following a complaint by the District Health Authority (DHA) after dengue larvae were discovered at Chughtai Lab. According to the FIR, stagnant water on the lab’s roof and inside a generator filter were found to harbor the larvae. The report also alleges that lab staff resisted health and police officials and attempted to bribe them.
The discovery comes amid a sharp rise in dengue infections across Rawalpindi. The Health Department has screened 8,819 individuals, confirming 477 cases so far. In the past 24 hours alone, 20 new cases were reported, with 42 patients currently receiving hospital treatment. The dengue-related death toll has also climbed.
To curb the outbreak, large-scale anti-dengue operations are underway. A total of 1,499 surveillance teams have inspected over five million locations, identifying larvae in more than 140,000 sites and eliminating 159,000 breeding grounds.
Authorities are also strictly enforcing dengue SOPs, sealing 1,738 buildings, issuing 3,333 challans, registering 4,004 FIRs, and collecting fines totaling nearly Rs 9.9 million.
The Health Department has identified Kotha Kalan, Sukho Jalal Din, Chak Jalal Din, Mohanpura, and Dhoke Ali Akbar as the current dengue hotspots in Rawalpindi.
Officials continue to urge residents to remain vigilant, eliminate stagnant water around their homes, and report any suspected breeding sites to help prevent further spread of the disease.
